Phoenix Park is Dublin’s: a vast oasis of trees and open grassland where Dubliners go for walks, cycle rides and outdoor activities.
It is one of Europe’s largest urban parks, covering approximately 700 hectares of grassland and woodland, enclosed by an 11-kilometre perimeter wall.
The park is home to the residence of the President of Ireland, Áras an Uachtaráin, as well as the residence of the US Ambassador. It also contains Dublin Zoo and a hospital. There is a visitor centre featuring an exhibition that traces the park’s history, from its early monastic and aristocratic ownership through its development in the eighteenth century and eventual opening to the public.
One of the best ways to enjoy Phoenix Park is to have a picnic, stroll through the woods and meadows while keeping an eye out for deer and squirrels, or stop to watch a game of hurling, polo or football at the weekend. It is also an ideal destination for jogging and cycling enthusiasts.
